To sexualize someone or something is to make it sexual on purpose, or to treat it as sexual when that is not the right frame — a child’s photo, a school uniform, a news story about a victim. The verb is a little formal and often critical: newspapers and teachers use it when they think a line has been crossed. You can also sexualize an object or a brand (make a product sell by linking it to sex). In careful talk, the harm is the point: the person did not ask to be seen that way. British spelling is sometimes sexualise, with an s; the meaning is the same.
