Sequential means relating to a sequence, or happening in one: one after another, in a set order. If the steps are sequential, you do step one, then step two, then step three — you do not jump around. A sequential story moves through time in order. Sequential numbers are the next ones in line (1, 2, 3…). It is a slightly formal, tidy word; in easy talk people often just say “in order” or “one after another.” It does not by itself mean “fast,” and it does not mean “this caused that.” It only says the order is a line. In computers you will also hear sequential for reading things in order, one record after the next, rather than jumping to a random place.
