    Senegalese is not the name of the country. The country is Senegal: West Africa, Atlantic coast, capital (about 13.3 million people in 2014, and more now). Senegalese is what we say for people and things from that country. A Senegalese singer; Senegalese cooking; She is Senegalese. As a noun, a Senegalese is one person from Senegal, and the Senegalese can mean the people as a group. Like Chinese or Japanese, the same shape works as an adjective and as a word for the person. It is the ordinary, polite word — not slang, not a nickname, and not a joke. Use a capital S.
