    Selflessness is the name for that quality: caring about other people more than about yourself. It is a noun of praise. People talk about an act of selflessness, or admire someone's selflessness. You will meet it in school writing, in news, and in talks about what a good person is. It is a little formal; in talk you might say she never thinks of herself instead. Though actually English sometimes uses it as a high ideal, so it can sound bigger than one kind afternoon. Pair it with selfless (the adjective) and (the adverb); do not use selflessness to describe a person directly.
