Self-worth is the feeling that you are a person who deserves to be liked and respected — that you have value, even when you fail a test or someone is . Teachers, , and health articles use it a lot. It sits close to self-esteem, and many people treat the two as the same. Though actually, some careful writers keep a small difference: self-esteem is how high or low you rate yourself day to day, and self-worth is the deeper sense that you matter as a person. Low self-worth can make someone stay in a bad job or a bad friendship because they think they do not deserve better. It is a noun, a little formal, more at home in serious talk than in slang.
