Self-improvement is the work of trying to make yourself a better, happier, or more able person. You might learn a skill, read, exercise, or drop a bad habit. The thing being is you, not a house or a company. The word is mostly positive, or at least earnest: shops have whole shelves of self-improvement books. Though actually, some people say it with a small smile, as if the person is always fixing themselves and never resting. It is common in courses, magazines, and careful talk. In easy speech people may just say working on myself or trying to get better. It does not promise that you will succeed — only that you are trying.
這個字指努力讓自己變得更好、更快樂或更有能力。被改善的是你自己，不是房子或公司。你可以透過學技能、閱讀、運動，或戒掉壞習慣來做到。它大多是正面的，至少是認真的。書店裡常常整排都是這類書，課程、雜誌和比較慎重的談話中也很常見。
