    Self-importance is the way a person acts when they think they matter more than other people. They may talk about themselves a lot, wait for special treatment, or look down on anyone they see as “smaller.” This is not a kind word. If you say someone is full of self-importance, you are criticising them: you think their picture of themselves is too big. Though actually, a person can be truly important — a doctor, a parent, a skilled worker — and show no self-importance at all. Importance is about what you do; self-importance is the show. The word is a little formal, more at home in writing and careful speech than in playground talk. Younger people often just say someone is full of themselves.
