Seedless fruit has no seeds inside that you have to spit out or cut around. Shops sell seedless grapes, oranges, and watermelons for that reason: you can eat them more easily, and children do not choke on hard pips. It is a plain, everyday word — you see it on fruit bags — not fancy and not slang. Though actually, a “seedless” watermelon may still have those little white soft bits; they are empty coats, not real seeds you could plant. The plant may still start from a seed or from a cutting; seedless only talks about the fruit in your hand. People also stretch it a little: seedless jam, a seedless variety. It always means “without seeds,” not “not planted.”
