Seclusion is the state of being private and away from other people. A writer might work in seclusion for a month. An old house might stand in seclusion at the end of a long track. It can be chosen — you want the quiet — or it can be given to you, as when someone is kept apart. The word is a little formal. Everyday talk might just say they want to be left alone. Seclusion is the quiet itself, the being-away; the place you go to is secluded.
