1. 1

Sealskin is the skin or fur of some kinds of seal, made into leather or warm clothes. In the past it was for coats, boots, and bags, because it is warm and keeps out water. You will meet the word in older stories, in museums, and in arguments about hunting and about whether such clothes should still be sold. It is a straight, clear compound: the skin of a seal. Though actually, not every seal was hunted for this; some kinds were taken especially for the fur.
