A sculptress is a woman who makes sculptures. The ending -ess is the old English way of marking “this worker is female,” the same idea as actress. Though actually, many people now just say sculptor for everyone, and sculptress can sound old-fashioned. Some women still use it of themselves; some dislike it, because it makes the job sound like a special female version. You will find it more in older books and old newspapers than in today's careful speech. It is not a rude word, but it is not the safest modern choice.
