A sculptor is someone who makes sculptures — shapes in stone, wood, metal, clay, and so on. It is the job word, like painter or writer. You can use it for a man or a woman; that is the normal word now. It sounds neutral and a little formal, the name of a craft. You meet it in museums, art books, and news about art, not much in playground talk.
