    A screw-top is a lid that you by turning it. You twist it on to close a bottle or a jar, and twist it the other way to open it, the same motion as tightening a screw. Water bottles, jam jars, and many wine bottles have screw-tops now instead of corks. You can name the lid itself (a screw-top) or describe the container (a screw-top bottle). It is a plain, everyday word. Though actually, top here just means a lid — not the highest part of something in a general way.
