A screenager is a young person who spends a huge amount of time in front of screens: a computer, a games console, a phone, or the television. Newspapers like the word — it is a joke-name, not a medical term and not a kind nickname — and it often carries a little adult worry: this generation lives through glass. The writer Douglas Rushkoff coined it. It already feels a bit dated to some readers, because by that measure almost every teenager now is a screenager; English papers still reach for it when they want a snappy label. You will meet it in headlines more than in careful classroom writing.
