A schmo is a stupid or person — some guy you do not respect, or who keeps getting in the way. Informal American, a bit rude, but milder than . You might say “some poor schmo” for a person stuck with a thankless job, which can sound half sorry and half laughing. Though actually, people also say Joe Schmo (or Joe Schmoe) for a very ordinary person, nobody special, not especially stupid. That use is kinder. The sharper use is the one here: a fool, or someone who gets on your nerves. Do not use it of a person who is in the room if you want to be polite.

組成Does not split. From Yiddish, an alteration of schmuck. (A look-alike Russian word чмо means a jerk, but that is a comparison, not the English path.) The “ordinary guy” sense in Joe Schmo may be a separate match of the same sound.
