A sanguinary fight, war, or history is one full of violence and killing — bloody in the old, serious sense of the word. It is a heavy, adjective; news reports would more often say bloody or violent. It can describe the event, or sometimes a person who seems hungry for bloodshed. Though actually, you will almost never hear it in casual talk; if a student uses it in speech it can sound like they have swallowed a nineteenth-century novel. Do not mix it up with sanguine, which looks similar but means hopeful and cheerful. They share a Latin root for blood, then pulled far apart.
血腥的、殺伐很重的(書面)
