In old American Western movies, a saloon is a bar where cowboys drink, gamble, and sometimes get into fights — it's the classic swinging-door bar of the Wild West. In British English, 'saloon' (or 'saloon car') is simply the everyday word for a standard four-door car with a separate trunk — what Americans would call a 'sedan.' There is also 'saloon bar,' an older British term for the more comfortable, slightly pricier side of a traditional pub.
