1. 1

A salesgirl is a young woman who sells things in a shop. The pieces are plain: sales + girl. Older English used salesman, saleswoman, salesgirl the way it sorted people by sex and age. You will still hear salesgirl, and you will see it in older books and some shop talk. Though actually, many people now find it a little smalling: girl can sound as if the woman is a child, or as if the job is not serious. In careful or modern English, or sales assistant is the kinder default, for any age and any gender. Salesgirl is not a swear word, and some women still use it of themselves, but if you are not sure, choose the word. It is a noun for a shop-floor job, not for a sales manager in an office.

    女店員(較舊;現在較常說 salesperson / 店員)
