A sac is a small bag-shaped part inside a plant or an animal. It holds liquid or air. You meet it in biology class and at the doctor’s: an egg sac, a sac, a snake’s venom sac, the tiny air sacs in your lungs. It is a science word, not the everyday word for a bag you carry shopping — that word is sack, which looks almost the same and often sounds the same. A sac is usually soft, closed, and living inside a body. Though actually, scientists also use it for some tiny pouches that are not “bags” in the sense; they just mean a small hollow space with a wall around it.
(生物體內的)囊、袋狀構造(如液囊、氣囊、毒囊;不是購物袋的 sack)
組成Borrowed from French sac, “bag”. That French word goes back to Latin saccus, and further to an old Greek word for a coarse bag.
