Roughcast is a coating on the outside of a building. You mix plaster with little stones, grit, or broken shells, then throw or spread it on the wall so the surface stays bumpy, not smooth. It keeps rain off the wall and gives the house a look. You see it a lot on older houses in Britain. Though actually, people lump several bumpy finishes together and call them all roughcast; pebble-dash is close, but not exactly the same. As a verb, to roughcast a wall is to put that coating on. In ordinary talk you will mostly meet the noun. It is a builder’s word, not a weather word.
