    A rockfall is rocks coming down a cliff or mountain — either the falling itself, or the pile they leave on the road or the slope afterwards. Mountain roads put up signs for it. News reports use it after earthquakes or heavy rain. It is a plain, slightly outdoor-technical word. Though actually, people sometimes mix it with rockslide: a rockslide is usually a bigger mass sliding as one body; a rockfall is more rocks dropping or bouncing down.
