Risk-taking is when people do things that might go badly, because they hope to gain something — money, a win, a new skill, a better life. A company may praise risk-taking; a parent may worry about it. You hear it a lot in business, sport, and school talks about trying new things. It can name the behaviour (her risk-taking paid off) or describe a person or style (a risk-taking driver). Though actually, it is not the same as being careless. Careless forgets the danger; risk-taking sees the danger and still goes, on purpose, for a result. People stretch it in light talk: even ordering a new dish can be called risk-taking as a joke. In serious talk it stays closer to money, health, and big choices.
