Risibility is a rare, formal noun that sits next to the adjective risible. Risible describes a thing as so foolish it deserves to be laughed at; risibility can name that quality — how laughable and silly something is. Though actually, in older and careful writing the same noun more often means a person’s ability to laugh, the laugh that lives in you. “It tested my risibility” means it almost made me laugh. You will almost never hear this word in the street. People say a sense of humour, or they call the thing ridiculous. Meet it in books, in jokes that sound old on purpose, and in a few school papers.
