Ribaldry is the jokes and remarks themselves — rude, funny talk about sex — or that whole kind of humour treated as a mass of stuff, like “the ribaldry in the play.” You do not count it: you would not say two ribaldries in careful English. It names the comedy, not the person telling it. Like ribald, it is a grown-up, slightly old-fashioned word. Reviews of books, films, and old theatre use it; everyday talk more often says dirty jokes or crude humour. It can be fond (“harmless ribaldry”) or disapproving (“cheap ribaldry”), depending on whether the speaker thinks the jokes are warm and human or just coarse. Though actually, it still points at sexual humour, not at any joke that is merely unkind.
