A revivalist is a person who leads or joins an organized push to make a religion popular again — often a preacher who travels, holds meetings, and tries to wake people’s faith. Newspapers may say “a revivalist preacher.” The same word is also an adjective: revivalist meetings, revivalist fervour, meaning “in the style of that movement.” Though actually, in art and buildings, revivalist can mean “bringing an old style back”; this entry is the religion one. It is not the campaign itself (that is ), and it is not a single evening’s revival meeting. Think: the person, or the manner of the person.
