In , revisionism is when people still claim the same big belief system — most of all Marxism — but start changing the old official ideas. They may say the founders still matter, though actually some of the old rules, they argue, no longer fit the world as it is. The word is often a weapon, not a compliment: the side that wants no change calls the others revisionists, as if they have walked away from the true teaching. Historians also use it more quietly, for any attempt to a country's political story, not only a socialist one. You will not hear it much in the street; it lives in essays, party fights, and history class. Do not mix it up with British school “revision” (going over notes before an exam). That is a smaller, friendlier word.
組成From revision + -ism. Revision is looking again and changing what was written (re- “again” + vision “seeing”); -ism is a set of ideas or a movement.
