A reversal is a complete change to the opposite direction, decision, or situation — things were going one way, and then they switched to the other way. You can have a reversal of fortune (bad luck turning into good, or the opposite), a policy reversal (a government changing its mind about a rule), or a reversal in sports (the losing team suddenly starts winning).
