    Reverence is great respect and admiration — the feeling you have when you someone or something. You can hold a person in reverence, speak with reverence, or feel reverence for a place. It is a formal, serious noun. Though actually, older English used Your Reverence to address a priest, and a reverence could even mean a deep bow; those uses are rare now, but you still meet them in old plays. There is a verb to reverence, but most people just say . The word came through Middle English from Old French reverence and Latin reverentia, from the same Latin revereor as (re- + vereor, to fear, heed, or stand in awe).
