Something restorative makes you feel healthier or stronger — more like yourself again. A nap, a walk by the sea, a quiet weekend, or a simple meal can be restorative. The feeling is of being built back up, not of luxury. You will meet it in careful writing and in talk about health or rest; it is a little more formal than “it did me good”. Though actually, the word can also name a thing that restores you (an old use for a tonic or a drink), but almost always meet the adjective. It belongs with restore, not with , and not with rest as in sleep — even when the thing that restores you is rest.
組成From Middle English restoratif, from Old French restoratif / restauratif and Medieval Latin restaurātīvus. Same as restore + -ative (“having the quality of restoring”).
