Work that is remunerative brings in a lot of money, or at least enough that the pay is the point. A remunerative job is a well-paid one. A remunerative deal makes you a profit. It is a bookish adjective. Newspapers and essays use it; friends more often say well-paid or it pays well. It does not mean the work is enjoyable, useful, or kind — only that it pays. A dull job can still be remunerative. Though actually, older writing sometimes uses it more weakly, just to mean “that pays you something” rather than “that pays you a lot.” In learner dictionaries and in job talk now, the strong reading is the usual one: it makes good money.
