Remuneration is the pay itself — the money, and often the extras, that you get for work. Formal job say “competitive remuneration” when they mean the salary plus the rest of the package: perhaps a car, insurance, a bonus. It is a noun you meet on HR pages, in contracts, and in company reports.
People in ordinary talk say pay, salary, or . Using remuneration with a friend can sound like you are reading a form out loud. That is not wrong; it is just heavy, and a little distant. It names what you receive, not the act of handing it over (that verb is ).
Though actually, remuneration is broader than salary. Salary is the regular monthly figure. Remuneration can fold in fees, bonuses, and benefits, which is why legal and job writing likes it: one word for the whole deal.
