A reminiscence is a memory you tell or write down — a story from your past, not just a silent thought. People publish their reminiscences as a book of old stories; a friend might offer a reminiscence of a teacher. It can also mean the act of looking back. In a more literary way, it can mean a faint reminder of something else (“a reminiscence of lemon in the tea”), though that use is less common in English. In school you will mostly meet it as “stories of what I remember.” It is more formal than “an old story” or “a memory.” One reminiscence is one story; reminiscences in the plural often means a whole set, or a kind of memoir.
組成From Late Latin reminīscentiae, “remembrances,” from Latin reminīscēns, the -ing form of reminīscor, “to remember.”
