To reinsure is the verb for that sharing. An insurance company reinsures a risk when it passes part of it to another company, so each one carries less. “They reinsured the flood policies” means they did not keep the whole danger on their own books. Same idea as reinsurance, but as an action, not as the name of the arrangement. It is specialist business English; ordinary people insure a house or a car, they do not reinsure them. Though actually, students sometimes hear re- and think “insure again next year.” Renewal is a different thing. This word is about splitting the risk between companies.
