In English, the Reich almost always means the German state from 1933 to 1945 — Germany under Hitler, the Nazi years. People also say the Third Reich for that same stretch of time. The German word Reich means a realm or empire, so in German you can talk about other Reichs as well, older German empires among them. Though actually, in English news, classrooms, and everyday talk, Reich is not a calm general word for “empire.” It points at those twelve years, a cruel government, and a world war. It is a proper name, so it takes a capital letter. It is a heavy historical word, not a joke about a person or a strict school.
組成Borrowed from German Reich, “empire, realm.” Wiktionary also calls it a doublet of Raj: same old root for a realm, arrived in English by another path.
