Redistribution is the act of — the sharing-out again, especially of money or land. In , redistribution of wealth means moving money from richer people toward poorer people, usually by tax and public spending. The word itself is not an insult, though in some mouths it is a fighting word, and people argue about it for hours. You will also see it for land after a war, seats in parliament, or food after a disaster. It names the process or the policy, not a single gift in someone’s hand. It belongs to news, essays, and speeches more than to kitchen talk.
