Red-blooded is a joking, slightly old-fashioned way to say that someone — nearly always a man — has all the loud, hearty qualities a ‘typical’ man is supposed to have: energy, appetite, interest in sport or romance, a kind of simple . Writers often say a red-blooded male or any red-blooded Englishman. It is humorous on purpose, and a little cartoonish. Though actually, the joke leans on an old stereotype, so younger speakers may find it dated or a bit silly, and it can feel unfair to anyone who is not that kind of man. It has almost nothing to do with the colour of blood. It is not a medical word, and it is not a compliment you would put on a serious form.
