A blue-blooded person belongs to a royal or noble family — born into titles, palaces, old names. It is a slightly old-fashioned, story-book way of saying they did not climb there; they arrived by birth. Newspapers still use it about princes and long-rich families. It comes from the noun blue blood, meaning that kind of family background; add -ed and you have the adjective. Though actually, nobody's blood is blue. People used to say the veins of nobles looked blue because they did not work in the sun, and the phrase stuck as a picture, not a medical fact. You will also hear it stretched, a little jokingly, for anyone who seems born to money and manners.
