Rectification is the act of putting something right after it has gone wrong — a mistake, an unfair rule, a false report. It is a heavy, formal noun. You find it in news, law, and official letters more than in speech. A person might demand the rectification of an error; a company might publish a rectification when it has printed the wrong facts. You would not ask a for “rectification” of homework; “Please correct this” is the human-sized word. Though actually, specialists also use it in other rooms: talk about rectification when they turn alternating current into direct current, and chemists may use it for a kind of purifying. Those are extra, technical lives of the same word. The meaning you will meet first is still “making a wrong thing right.”
