Record-breaking sits in front of a number, a level, a show, or a person when that thing is the highest, lowest, biggest, or best of its kind that has ever happened. A record-breaking heat wave is hotter than any we have on the books. A record-breaking crowd is the largest so far. It is a describing word. The person (or thing) that does it is often a record-breaker. News writers love it. Though actually, people sometimes say it just to sound , even when the “record” is only for one school, one shop, or one quiet year. Listen for what the record is of — world, country, or just “in this building.”
record-breaking 放在數字、程度、表演或人的前面，指那件事是有史以來同類中最高、最低、最大或最好的。例如「a record-breaking crowd」就是目前為止人數最多的群眾，「a record-breaking heat wave」則是比過去所有紀錄都還熱的熱浪。它是形容詞，做出這件事的人或東西常被稱為 record-breaker。
新聞寫作特別愛用它。不過有時候人們只是為了聽起來很興奮，紀錄的範圍可能只限於一所學校、一家店或某一年。所以聽的時候要注意紀錄指的是世界、國家，還是只限於某個地方。
