    Recd. is only a written shortcut for received. You see it on forms, stamps, , and old-fashioned office notes: “recd. 12 May” means “we got this on 12 May.” Nobody says “recd” out loud as a word; if you are speaking, you say received. The full stop (recd.) marks it as an abbreviation. You may also see it without the stop, or as rec’d / rcvd., depending on the office. It belongs to paper, and to screens that copy paper, not to conversation.
