Realty is another word for real estate: land and buildings you can own — a house, a flat, a shop, a piece of ground — not chairs, cars, or money in a bank. You meet it in American business and legal language: a realty company, a realty office, “She works in realty.” In everyday British English, and in many Taiwan classrooms, people are more likely to say property or real estate. Though actually, the “real” in realty is an old legal “real,” meaning this kind of property (land), not “real” as in “not fake.” That is why realty and reality look like twins but do different jobs. They are doublets: they came from related French forms and then went different ways.
