- 1
Rapturous means showing very great happiness or admiration, the kind that spills out. News reports love it: rapturous applause, a rapturous welcome, a rapturous reception. It paints a crowd (or a critic) as wildly pleased. It is a little over-the-top on purpose, which is why journalists reach for it; you would not usually call your own quiet smile rapturous. It comes from rapture, a feeling of being carried away with joy. Used this way it is almost always praise in public, not a private mood you whisper about.
熱烈的、欣喜若狂的(新聞常用,尤其 rapturous applause「狂熱掌聲」)
