Rapacity is the greed itself — the habit of wanting and taking more money, goods, or land than you need or have a right to. It is a noun, so it names the quality or the behaviour: the rapacity of the company, not a rapacity company. It is formal, a little old-fashioned, and a little severe. People at the table say greed; writers reach for rapacity when they want that grabbing, not-yours colour. Do not mix it with , which is only speed. The two words look like cousins on the page, but they do not mean the same thing. Though actually, you will meet rapacity far less than greedy; it turns up in news, history, and sharp comment, not in playground talk.
