Ranching is the activity or business of running a ranch: keeping cattle, sheep, or horses on a large piece of land, usually in open country. People say cattle ranching or sheep ranching. It is not the same as growing rice or vegetables. The land is used for animals, and the scale is often huge. The word is at home in American English when people talk about land, meat, and the countryside.
