A raider is someone who rushes into a place and takes things that are not theirs. The picture is a sudden attack, not a quiet thief who sneaks in and out: a raider bursts in, grabs what they want, and leaves. News stories use it for people who break into shops, homes, or villages in a group. Soldiers can be raiders too, when they make a quick strike and pull back. Though actually, in business English the word has stretched: a “corporate raider” is not stealing televisions, but buying a company in a fierce way and tearing it apart for money. The everyday core is still the person who raids — who goes in and takes.
組成raid (a sudden attack, to rush in and take) + -er (the person who does it).
