A racer is someone who takes part in a race — on foot, on a bike, in a car, in a boat, and so on. The ending -er means “a person who does this”, the same as in runner or . It is a plain, everyday word, not only for famous drivers. Though actually people also call a very fast bicycle or car a racer, as if the machine itself were racing; that is a stretch of the same idea. For this sense, keep the person in mind: the racer is the one competing. Do not mix it up with racist, which is a completely different word.
參賽選手(跑步、自行車、船都可用;開車比賽時台灣也常說賽車手)
