A quart is a way to measure liquid, used mainly in the United States and, a little, in Britain. Two pints make one quart. Four quarts make one gallon. Because Britain and the US never quite agreed on the size of a pint, their quarts do not match: a British quart is about 1.14 litres, an American one about 0.95 litres — almost a litre, but not quite.

A quartA quart(夸脫) is a way to measure liquid是一種量液體的單位,used mainly in the United States and, a little, in Britain主要用在美國,英國也有一點點在用。Two pints make one quart兩品脫等於一夸脫。Four quarts make one gallon四夸脫等於一加侖。Because Britain and the US never quite agreed on the size of a pint因為英國和美國對「一品脫」的大小從來沒完全談攏,their quarts do not match兩邊的夸脫也對不上:a British quart is about 1.14 litres英制夸脫大約是 1.14 公升,an American one about 0.95 litres美制大約是 0.95 公升——almost a litre, but not quite接近一公升,但不完全是。

In Taiwan you almost never buy milk by the quart; you buy 公升.

In Taiwan you almost never buy milk by the quart在台灣你幾乎不會用夸脫買牛奶;you buy 公升你買的是公升。

You will meet the word in American recipes, on old bottles, and in classes that still use US units. It is ordinary kitchen-and-shop talk there, not a science-only word.

You will meet the word in American recipes, on old bottles, and in classes that still use US units你會在美式食譜、舊瓶子上,還有還在用美制單位的課堂上遇到這個字。It is ordinary kitchen-and-shop talk there在那邊它是廚房和店裡的日常用語,not a science-only word不是只有科學才會用的字。

The name is from Latin for “one fourth”: a quart is a quarter of a gallon.

The name is from Latin for "one fourth"這個名字來自拉丁文「四分之一」的意思:a quart is a quarter of a gallon一夸脫就是四分之一加侖。
