    Pyromania is the illness, not the person. It names a strong, hard-to-control wish to start , treated as a mental illness. The person who has it is a pyromaniac. Newspapers and films sometimes stick pyromania on anyone who likes matches or ; that is loose talk. Doctors mean something much narrower: starting the fire is the point itself, not a way to hide a crime or get money. Though actually, casual English mixes the two words, and you may hear he's a pyromania. That slip is common, but it treats the illness-word as if it were the person.
