Mania is an extremely strong, often uncontrollable excitement or enthusiasm about something — so strong it can feel a little crazy. You will often see it attached to another word to describe a craze: 'World Cup mania', 'Beatlemania' (crazy excitement about the band The Beatles). In medicine and psychology, mania is also a real, serious condition — a period of unusually high energy, excitement, and racing thoughts, often part of bipolar disorder. The everyday use (a huge craze) is much more common in daily conversation than the medical meaning.
