If you are pumped, you are very and ready — buzzing for a game, a trip, a concert. It is informal, young, and still feels a bit American, though plenty of other people use it now. You will hear “I'm so pumped” or “pumped up.” It comes from the idea of pumping something fuller: muscles filled with blood, a ball filled with air, energy running high. Though actually the same spelling is also just the ordinary past of pump (“she pumped the water”), and gym people say pumped when their muscles look swollen after lifting. The “very ” sense is the slang one, and it is about feeling, not about water or tyres.

From pump, from Middle English pumpe, possibly from Middle Dutch pompe 'pipe' or Middle Low German pumpe.

組成From the verb pump. The slang sense grew from pumping up — filling with air, with blood, or with energy — until it meant “full of excitement.”
